What Are The Levels Of Tesco Car Insurance?
Like any standard car insurance policy in the UK, there are three levels to choose from:
Third-party only (TPO)
This is the lowest level of car cover, allowing you to drive on UK roads legally. It is a legal requirement.
It only covers costs incurred to third-party persons and their property/vehicles if you injure/damage them while driving. It won’t cover repair or replacement costs for your vehicle or personal injuries.
Note: Tesco Bank car insurance only offers TPO for Silver policies.
Third-party, fire and theft (TPFT)
This is a medium-level cover that includes basic TPO. In addition, you’ll be compensated for repair/replacement costs if your vehicle is damaged by fire or stolen.
Note: Tesco Bank car insurance only offers TPFT for Silver policies.
Comprehensive
As mentioned above, Tesco offers three types of comprehensive cover: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
These include both TPO and TPFT cover with the addition of extras such as a courtesy vehicle, child car seat cover and lost key insurance.
What Optional Extras Can You Add To Tesco Car Insurance Policies?
Tesco Bank car insurance offers several policy add-ons:
Black box cover
Black box insurance will allow drivers who prioritise safe driving to reduce their insurance premiums. A black box is a device that collects data, it’s fitted to your car and will monitor your driving behaviour. This may be especially useful for inexperienced or young drivers.
Breakdown cover
A breakdown cover policy is handy as roadside accidents or car malfunctions are often unpredictable. It provides roadside assistance for everyday driving or additional cover when driving in Europe.
Note: RAC Insurance Limited is the underwriter for Tesco Bank Breakdown Cover.
Key cover
Get peace of mind with this optional extra, whether keys are lost, stolen, broken or locked inside the vehicle. This is available from 14 days after taking out your Tesco policy to a maximum of £1,500.
Note: Ageas Insurance Limited is the underwriter for Tesco Bank Key Cover (claims handled by Keycare).
Upgraded courtesy vehicle cover
This policy gives you a courtesy car similar in size to your current vehicle for up to 28 days. This is included in Gold policies.
